Squad/Basic Squad Formations

Intro

This guide will help you be a better Squad Leader and helps you understand how to move across the map. These are some of the basic formations that are being used in the matches. You will learn how to employ them,when to use them and why to use them in courses that are made by our Academy Instructors.


Fire Team Formations

Fire Team Wedge

Wedge is main FT formation. Commonly used for travelling areas which are not safe.

Fire Team File

File is travelling formation used for travelling in safe areas.

Easy to control.Useful for navigating the map, travelling.Cover to flanks Vulnerable from front/rear (hence MG's in those positions for heavy volume of fire).Encourages tunnel vision, remain vigilant to your arcs.

Composition: Machine Gunners (MG)/Automatic Riflemen (AR) - Front/Rear First 5 men = Alpha Fire Team-Fire Support Group (FSG) MG/AR, SL, Medic, Grenadier, Rifleman Rear 4 men = Bravo Fire Team-Assault/Flanking Group 2ic, Medic, Rifleman, MG/AR


Fire Team Line

Fireteam line is main battle formation. As soon as you are being engaged or approach known enemy location this is formation you use.

Staggered Column

Staggered column is travelling formation used for travelling/convoy. Mostly used while travelling along the road.

Squad Formations

Here you will see formations used within a squad and their application because squad formations and fireteam formations are different.

Squad Column

Squad column is main travelling formation. Commonly used for travelling areas which are not safe,it consist of 2 fireteam wedges one behind each other.

Squad Line

Squad line is main formation for approaching known enemy location, it consists of 2 fireteam wedges one next each other.

Great coverage and volume of fire to front.Hard to keep in formation, view map to check postitioning.Allows Fire Teams freedom of movement and mutual support, one covering whilst other moves. Exposed to flanks and rear. Composition Alpah Fire Team, left Bravo Fire Team, right (however this will be mirrored if contact rear)


Squad File

Squad file is travelling formation used for travelling in safe areas.It consist of 2 fireteam files one behind each other. also may consist of two staggered columns

Squad Line

Squad main battle formation. You can hear your squad leader shout LINE UP!!! This is what he wants you to do. It consist of 2 fireteam lines.

Arrowhead

Large volume of fire to front. Able to get half the Sqauds fire power to flanks easily. Able to break of into flanking Fire Teams easily. Easier than extended line to maintain as you can see the person to front and side of you. Only useful for open areas.

Bounding

Here you will see main battle tactic for all infantry, known as bounding. Also known as leap-frogging.

Fire Team Bounding

In this picture you see how bounding within a fireteam works: Pair 2 provide base of fire cover while pair 1 advance to another covering position (move out)

Squad Bounding

In this picture you see how bounding works within a squad: Team blue (2) provide base of fire cover while team red (1) advance to another covering position (move out) Once team (1) moved to cover, they report on coms: team (1) set, and provide base of fire while team (2) move out.
